Happy Cake Day - Kelly Bates

Happy Cake Day - Kelly Bates

Tania Ridgwell |

Hi,
For those who of you who have been following me for awhile, you’ll know that in the middle of April I get to share a Paper Rose card on my daughters birthday! This year I’m sharing a super cute new embossing folder and cake die, and I love the results, so let’s get into it!
Other products used: die cutting machine, Brown ink, Clear Shimmer Pen, Silver glitter cardstock, double sided tape, liquid glue, foam tape
Technique: I cut a piece of Smooth White cardstock in half and ran one panel through my die cutting machine inside the balloons embossing folder. I then used the second half to die cut my cake and candles out. I used the direct-to-paper technique using my inks to colour in each of the cake parts except for the outline and set aside to dry fully. I die cut the cake and stars from the silver glitter cardstock. I created a card base from another sheet of the White Smooth Cardstock, then glued my embossed panel directly to it and trimmed off any overhang. To assemble the cake, I took the white outline die cut and added a few strips of double sided tape to the back of it, then inlaid all my pieces back in. I then glued the silver outline die cut on top, foam mounted the cake and added it to the front of my card. I cut my own little cake stand base to help ground it. I added my silver stars to finish the card.
